Have a Sustainable Christmas, Shop Local

December 1st, 2008

30 Artists from around these parts are participating in our third annual christmas craft fair.  All the artists keep all proceeds from sales.  Come support the local arts, and your gift shopping needs.  You will find high quality, one-of-a-kind (seriously), local made crafts from artists who live right here among us.  None of the  items are shipped from distant lands (although we love those far away places, they are not practical places to have your presents shipped from even when oil is cheap); they are all local made (like in people’s homes and what-not).  No kiddin!

This truck runs on coffee grounds!

While many of us will readily attest to running of coffee, this truck may be the first vehicle to join the caffeine club - used grounds are placed into the tank, where a process called gasification converts them into a usable fuel. Perhaps the brightest bit of news to glean from this 1975 GMC is that gasification doesn’t only apply to coffee; any biomass will do, including compost or peat moss.

Why yes, Krankies has the honor of having its very own Art-0-Mat Machine. Come check her out. She quit smoking long ago and’s now dispensing original works of art. Yep.

Compost Earth

September 16th, 2008

Check out how fair and balanced Mitchell is!  Mitchell has initiated our compost program, and is extending it to the entire building first and then on to the city.  We are currently gathering data from Camino Bakery, The Wherehouse and Krankies as per the amount of organic waste we expend.  Soon we will be able to figure out just what type of requirements we’ll need to compost the amount of waste we have.  Our gardens can only stand but so much coffee before they hop out of the ground and run off.
